Audley End House

mushrooms at Audley End House

If you have some spare time between flights or you are looking for somewhere to visit while you are in the Stansted area why not call in to Audley End House located just outside Saffron Walden in Essex about 20 minutes away from Stansted.

Audley End House was once owned by Henry VIII and was then known as Walden Abbey. It has entertained royalty and seen many changes in its lifetime with new wings added on then later removed.

Audley End House is only a third of its original size with many parts gradually demolished over the years, but the main house structure has remained mostly structurally unaltered.

A visit to Audley End House and its gardens is a fun and fascinating place for all the family. Not only can you wander inside this stately home on guided tours you can also visit the restored historic stables complete with horses and grooms, wander around the magnificent gardens and grounds taking in the swans on the lakes and the many grand trees and gardens. You can also enjoy a bite to eat at the Cart Yard Café while the children play in the fun theme play area, wander around the organic gardens, and visit the Victorian Service wing that is complete with kitchen, laundries and a dairy.

Audley End House is one of the most magnificent stately houses to visit whilst in England. It is now looked after by the English Heritage Trust who regularly has days that give you an insight into Victorian life.
